![]() Nestled neatly in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Polk County High School is home to approximately 730 of North Carolina's finest students. Polk County High is a progressive school with a dedicated faculty and administration. In 1998 - 1999 Polk County High was named a Top 10 School for Academic Growth and named as a school with Exemplary Growth for many other years. For the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 academic years PCHS was recognized as a "High Growth School of Distinction" in the North Carolina ABC's Accountability Program and met all No Child Left Behind goals for Adequate Yearly Progress. We are proud of our students and teachers and we will work to continue to achieve at high levels for many years to come. Polk County High opened its doors in the fall of 1992 and joined three smaller schools. Two city schools, Tryon High and Saluda High, and one county school, Polk Central High merged and placed all of Polk County's high school students in one building during the 1992-1993 school year. The rest is history. We attribute much of our success to the vision and dedication of our Superintendent, William J. Miller, The Polk County Board of Education, and the hard work of all the central office staff and everyone at Polk County High. The school is also fortunate to have the backing of community organizations, area businesses, parents, and other educational community members. There is so much more to Polk High than you will ever see on these pages. To gain full appreciation for the students, faculty, facility, and community you must visit. We are always happy to have visitors and we love to share ideas and talk education. Please contact the central office either by the Internet through the Polk County Schools web page or by telephone at (828) 894-3051. You may also contact Polk County High School by calling our office at (828) 894-2525 or emailing agreene@polk.k12.nc.us. A supportive community, beautiful setting, modern facilities, student service focus, and variety of class and extracurricular offerings are just a few of the things that make Polk County High shine among other North Carolina high schools. Proven academic excellence, access to technology, innovative and effective educational programs, a dedicated staff and motivated students all contribute to making Polk County High School a meaningful and complete educational experience. So, if you are looking for a great school in which to work, enroll a student, or to visit, Polk High fits the bill. Thanks for visiting and we appreciate your interest in our school.
