Polk Central & Sunny View kindergarten registration dates: 2) Sunny View Elementary will hold kindergarten registration on Thursday, April 15, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. WHAT TO BRING: A parent or legal guardian should bring these documents to registration. If you do not have any of these documents, come to registration anyway. You will be required to provide these documents before your child begins school in August, 2010.
* Official Birth Certificate If you do not have a certificate with an official seal on it, an official certificate may be obtained from the Office of Vital Records in the county or state in which the child was born.)

![]() Polk County High students and staff working hard for "A World With More Birthdays" for Relay for Life:Polk County High School began its Relay for Life fundraising with a special assembly on Wednesday, Mar. 3 in the school's auditorium. The students and staff have chosen the theme of "A World With More Birthdays," and utilized the assembly to present this year's class challenges for raising their goal of $6,000 for the event. If the school reaches that goal, Principal Aaron Greene has agreed to shave his head. The school will also hold numerous activities that include birthday and baked food sales, a soccer tournament in April and Relay pencils, ribbons, pens and bracelets sales until the Polk County Relay For Life event to be held April 30 at the school. Life Skills teacher Susan Bowman is the team's captain this year and says that her foods classes are working hard to raise money with bake sales. Students are also hitting the streets to ask for sponsors from local businesses. For more information, please contact team captain, Susan Bowman, at 894-2525.

![]() Polk County Middle School Model Bridge Building Team Wins Regional Competition
The Polk County Middle School Model Bridge Building Team , on Friday, Mar. 5, placed first in the NC Department of Transportation's Model Bridge Building Competition for Western NC held in Morganton, NC. Team members are Cheyenne Young, Rebecca Price, Brandon Hess, Tim Pace and Jonathon Green. Dr. Robert Pettis is the Bridge Building Team advisor. The PCMS Bridge Building team will compete at the state finals on April 16 in Raleigh, NC. |

![]() Matt Holt, a 2005 graduate of Polk County High and a 2009 graduate of North Carolina State University(NCSU), was featured in the Winter 2009 issue of NC State for his role in co-creating, funding and staffing New Sense Studios, an after-school program that provides a creative outlet for at-risk teens in Raleigh. Holt graduated form NCSU in December of 2009 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. As a student at Polk County High School, Holt was active in the school's agriculture program and, for his Senior Project, he created a diagram of the landscaping at the high school and installed a mail box outside of Principal Greene's office that contains copies for folks to pick up to learn about the design. Attention Polk County Schools' parents/guardians and students: The U.S. Department of Education has issued new requirements about race and ethnicity identification of students in public schools for all states. The new categories used to report ethnicity and race were developed by the federal government to give a better snapshot of the ethnic and racial diversity of our nation.
